The Little things - Please have your membership number and full details of where you need to go, and when, handy before you call us to make a booking.

If you are a wheelchair user who cannot transfer to a car seat, please make a point of telling us when you phone, just in case we forget to ask.

Please notify us of any changes to your address, telephone number or emergency contact details.

We are all volunteers here and we always need more volunteers and donations to improve the service that we can offer.

We need help in the following areas:-

Drivers – Are you a driver with a clean licence, your own roadworthy car and with some time to spare during the week? If so, we could use your help, the office staff, are regularly pushed to find enough drivers to cover the peaks of demand. The more drivers we have, the more Clients we can offer transport to.

We are also looking for drivers with a clean licence to drive the Scheme’s own wheelchair adapted Renault Kangoo. Please contact us at the office for further details if you are interested in helping with either.

Escorts – Our Community buses need escorts to help the less able clients on and off the vehicles. Could you help us?

Sponsors – We are looking for a sponsor to supply Tea, Coffee, Sugar and Milk on a yearly basis – essential to keep the volunteers in working order.

Donations – all donations are gratefully received, just to give you an idea how much money is required to keep the Scheme running here are some of our regular expenses:-

Our specialist wheelchair vehicle needs to be maintained and replaced from time to time, a replacement is approximately £10,000.

Our 4 Personal Computers are a fundamental part of the Office equipment and need replacing every 4 to 5 years at a cost of some £2,000 to £3,000.

Office expenses in general are always increasing, especially our telephone bill and Stationery items and postage stamps.

We are currently collecting towards the replacement of one of our Mini buses with integral tail lift for wheelchairs. Our Renault Kangoo requires an electric winch to help the drivers with loading and unloading of wheelchairs. Any help with these Projects would be wonderful.

Fundraisers

On the evening of Saturday 5th July 2008 an event called the Moonlight Colourthon, organised by Southend Round Table, was held. This was a half marathon walk set against the backdrop of Southend by night.

This year Fred Dowson (wearing number 129) walked again on behalf of the Car Scheme and raised a magnificent  £220. Thank you Fred and Well Done.

Thanks to everyone who supported our recent Charity Auction and raffle evening at the Castle Pub in Hadleigh. We managed to raise £444 for the Scheme.
